One week to go. I have been preparing myself for the moment I get on the plane and realize I will be gone until May of next year. Scary thought.

I just want to share from this book I have been reading. I highly recommend it for those of you who are James Taylor loving, crazy peace people who want to sell all their possessions and go on a road trip to find God. I myself would love to just head out into the unknown of nature and see how amazing the world is, promoting peace and love…and rock and roll? Ha or just peace and love for now. I went to my friends church last Sunday and he said God has three things for us to do: Love God, Love Others, and Change the world. Yes I highly believe that J I don’t agree with everything said in this book but it is an amazing read and I recommend it to all!

Here is just a little bit of the authors note from the book “Through Painted Deserts” by Donald Miller:

“Everybody has to change, or they expire. Everybody has to leave, everybody has to leave their home and come back so they can love it again for new reasons. I want to keep my soul fertile for the changes, so things keep getting born in me, so things keep dying when it is time for things to die. I want to keep walking away from the person I was a moment ago, because a mind was made to figure things out, not to read the same page recurrently…And so my prayer is that your story will have involved some leaving and some coming home, some summer and some winter, some roses blooming out like children at play. My hope is your story will be about changing, about getting something beautiful born inside of you, about learning to love a woman or man, about learning to love a child, about moving yourself around water, around mountains, around friends, about learning to love others more than we love ourselves, about learning oneness as a way of understanding God. We get one story, you and I, one story alone…It might be time for you to go. It might be time to change, to shine out…You will not be alone. You have never been alone. Don’t worry. Everything will still be here when you get back. It is you who will have changed.”

As we get ready to head out on this experience of a lifetime, I just hold on to the fact that this is where my story is heading. This is where I am meant to be at this specific moment and anything else I do will not make sense unless I go through this experience. I hope that through this experience I will be able to show that I love God, love others, and truly want to change the world.

  3. Many of the things you write in your blog resonate with me. I love that you put this up from Don Miller. I put the intro to this book on my blog as well in preparation to leave the World Race and read it to the last FYM trip here in our debrief in an effort to help them prepare to leave as well. Keep sharing your thoughts!
