NICARAGUA
So here i am sitting on my bed staring forlornly at my hiking backpack. Im not sure what happened, but somehow my packing is sadly lacking. My clothes are in my bag. And theres still a bed full of stuff to fit in that pack. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!?! 2 months worth of living at the base and somehow my stuff multiplied. And then after i somehow get this stuff fit into the hiking bag, i then have to fit the hiking backpack into the pack duffel (to keep the airline from eating all the snaps and straps on the bag). But i decided to be cheap when i came, so instead of buying a hiking bag pack duffel at Gander Mountain or Dicks, i went to the army store and paid 10 bucks for an army duffel. And the hiking backpack barely fit into the bag back in September. Quentin (my bro) had to sit on it and use his manly muscles to get it to close. Oh well, i’ve decided to stop for today and stuff everything in tomorrow at the last minute right before we leave. 🙂
The Nica team has been alone here at the base since Monday. The Swazi, South Africa, and Uganda teams left on Monday morning. They had an 18 hr flight (i think..?) and a layover in Dubai. Then another flight to their countries. They should have been there for a couple days by now so check out their blogs (Link to the team page is on the bottom right of my page, then you can click on any of my teammates names to see what they are doing in their countries).
I am excited to see what they do in their countries. As for the Nica team, we spent the last week hanging out and many of our teammates families came to visit us. It was fun. Yesterday was spent with me driving to South Padre Island with the team, singing Christmas carols along the way.
Now i am from Columbus, Ohio, and there is something strange about singing christmas carols in 80 degree weather while at the beach. Every time i think of November and December I think of snow, 30 degree weather and sweaters. Instead i was wearing shorts, sunglasses, and suntan lotion. But i like it. I need to do this more often! 😛
We also said goodbye to our host family, Maricia and her kids. Her house is being built right now (a church in Texas raised the money to build her a house and buy land for her). When we left all the kids hugged us a million times and said “te quiero” (i love u) over and over again. it was really sad but i am happy that they will be taken care of when we are gone.
Well tomorrow night i will be in GRANADA!! With Mr Seth Barnes Jr, and Heather, and the Kayes. I will do my best to blog soon about how amazing Nicaragua is. Thanks everyone for your prayer s for me the last two months here in Mexico and i hope you continue to pray for me as i am in Nicaragua!
