Merry Christmas and Happy New Years from Nicaragua! Here in Granada (as in most Spanish countries), Navidad is celebrated all night long on the 24th. So naturally, since we are trying to blend in with the culture, we decided to enjoy the festivities with our friends Oscar and Kennedy. After eating, and dancing merengue and bachata for 3 hours, we all went outside to hit the piñata with the kids. Then at promptly 12a Christmas Day- the night sky lit up with thousands of fireworks from every house in Granada. It is a tradition to throw "bombas" on December 24th. Every single household lit off fireworks last night. Then while we were walking through the town, people would just throw fireworks into the street. There were bands playing, people singing, fireworks going off, and cars honking. It was by far one of the best Christmases I've ever had.

Then Christmas Day we hung out at Frank and Bekah Burders house (missionaries here in Granada). It was fun hanging out relaxing with them. Then on the 26th, we headed to Laguna de Apoyo (a laguna in the middle of a dormant volcano- cleanest most beautiful water in all of Nicaragua!) for 2 days of Christmas vacation J

As for this week, its back to planning for ESL and the organic garden, doing the kids literacy program, and volunteering at the hospital and nursing home! New years Eve is apparently a larger scale repeat of Christmas eve (4 HOURS of bombas!!) so that should be interesting. Hope that everyone had a great Christmas hanging out with friends and family!
